The bodies of a British millionaire and his Thai wife were found in northern Thailand nearly a week after the police suspected of being a contract kill.

The bodies of Alan Hogg, 64, and Nod Suddaen, 64, were found buried on their property in Phrae Province.

Police said that Hogg from Edinburgh was shot dead while his wife was killed with a hammer.

Three suspects were detained. They were reportedly recruited to lead the attack on Nod Suddaen's brother.

He has now been arrested.

"The motive for these murders was a long-standing internal family conflict, quarrels and property," local police commander Manas Kerdsukho told AFP news agency.

The couple was missing last week.

The three alleged killers were arrested after the police found a vehicle allegedly removed from Mr. Hogg's property.

They later admitted to killing Mr. Hogg and his wife, police said.

The British Embassy in Thailand has so far made no public comment on the issue.

Hogg moved to Thailand several years ago and had built a luxury villa in Phrae that included a swimming pool and a summer house, according to reports.
