Thread of Fantasy Football Week 4: Is Baker Mayfield the Best Option to Replace Jimmy G?

Need advice on the Fantasy Football range? Talk to CBS Sports on your Google assistant for information on the best sleepers and to help you choose between players. Start with "Hey Google, talk to CBS Sports".

Week 4 is our first scoring period with teams goodbye, as Carolina and Washington left this week. Along with our usual distribution of injuries, Fantasy owners are looking for quality replacement options on the waiver line.

And the quarterback could be your biggest priority.

More fantasy

Cam Newton and Alex Smith left this week and we just lost Jimmy Garoppolo (ACL) for the season, which stinks. Carson Wentz came back in the third week of the ACL torn last year, but it 's not back as a fantastic option to follow before the fourth week of Tennessee.

Andrew Luck is also not a quarterback of Fantasy at Week 4 in Houston with his difficulties over the past two games, although I think the panic button is touching too early. Do not be surprised if he plays well against the Texans, but I can understand the trepidation of putting him in check this week.

Among the options that we will discuss are the guys who made great matches for week 4 – Andy Dalton in Atlanta, Ryan Tannehill in New England, Case Keenum against Kansas City and Eli Manning versus New Orleans – as well as the long upward term of Baker Mayfield, who was (finally) named the Browns starter. Mayfield also has a quality match in Oakland this week.

Considering our criteria, top players still have a hard time running because of their criteria, but are looking for players who might be available with a participation above 65% on CBS Sports. Aaron Jones (78% owned), Bilal Powell (77%), Chris Carson (74%) and Alfred Morris (69%) and Eric Ebron (81%) and O.J. Howard (73%).

The end of the match was marked by a major injury at week 3, Evan Engram (knee) having to miss at least a week. And back injuries have piled up for weeks, so I hope some of the options on the waiver lead will help you.

Aside from a potential quarterback need, the priority of the players to add this week is to the receiver because there is a lot of talent to find. Again, look for players above the 65% threshold, including John Brown (78%), Tyler Lockett (74%), Calvin Ridley (72%) and Sterling Shepard (72%). . But we also have a plethora of guys available in the majority of leagues, which we will discuss below.

With streaming options to DST and kicker, this should be a fun week on the quit line. So, let's go with your best players to add to the top of Week 4.

quarterfinals

Key players goodbye: Cam Newton, Alex Smith

Note injuries: Jimmy Garoppolo (ACL), Tyrod Taylor (concussion), Marcus Mariota (elbow)

Priority list: Andy Dalton (47%), Ryan Tannehill (22%), Baker Mayfield (19%), Case Keenum (49%), Eli Manning (41%), Joe Flacco (22%), Josh Allen (9%), Josh Rosen (8%)

  • Dalton has scored at least 18 fantastic points in all three games this season and is fortunate to be a weekly starter all year now that he has healthy goals with AJ Green, especially Tyler Boyd, which we will discuss below. For week 4, he had a very good game in Atlanta and the Falcons gave over 700 yards passing to Cam Newton and Matt Ryan, with eight touchdowns in total. Dalton is worth 5 to 10% of your FAAB budget this week, and I like it as one of the Top Ten Fantasy Quarterbacks of Week 4.
  • You could consider Mayfield as the number one quarterback to add this week because he could have the longest call. He has a lot of talent around him, with Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway and David Njoku in a potentially powerful system led by offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and he is clearly the first choice of Oklahoma. For Week 4, he will face a Raiders defense that allowed two of three quarters this week to hit several forwards at Jared Goff and Tannehill, but Mayfield plays on the road in Oakland. This is not my favorite streaming option, but I do like Mayfield as a sleeper. It is worth 5-10 percent of your FAAB.
  • Tannehill has scored 51 fantastic points in his last two games against the Jets and Raiders, and he has quietly made a good start in 2018 when he returned from last year's knee injury. He travels to New England in the fourth week and the Patriots have allowed six touchdowns in the last two games against Blake Bortles and Matthew Stafford, but on the road. Tannehill has spent at least 300 yards in four consecutive games against the Patriots, including three in a row in New England, with five touchdowns and six interceptions during that period. Given his recent performance, as well as the way the Patriots play defensively, I love Tannehill as a streaming option this week. It is worth 5-10 percent of your FAAB.
  • Keenum has regressed as a fantasy quarterback in the past two games after scoring 25 points in the first week against Seattle. He has accumulated 18 points over the last two weeks against Oakland and Baltimore, but it's worth using this option in the fourth week against the home Chiefs. Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger and Garoppolo, the three-quarter opponents against Kansas City this year, scored at least 26 Fantasy points, and the Chiefs gave 1,127 passing yards and nine touchdowns in three games. Keenum is a good streaming option and worth up to 5% of your FAAB.
  • Manning played his first fantastic match of the season at Week 3 in Houston with 23 points after only 21 points in his first two games against Jacksonville and Dallas. He faces the Saints this week at home and New Orleans has allowed two of three quarters this year (Ryan Fitzpatrick in the first week and Matt Ryan in the third week) to score five touchdowns each and spend at least 374 yards. Even without Engram, Manning deserves to be used as a broadcast option this week. It is worth up to 5% of your FAAB.
  • I would like to see Flacco more than he was at home this week because he usually performs better in Baltimore for his career. It also does not have the best record in Pittsburgh. But it's not the same Steelers defense he's used to seeing since they've allowed over 700 passing yards and nine touchdowns in the last two games against Patrick Mahomes and Fitzpatrick. Flacco might not dominate this defense like the other quarters, but it can still be an option for you in the two-quarter leagues. It's worth up to 5 percent of your FAAB.
  • In the biggest surprise of the season, Allen led the Bills in Minnesota and defeated the Vikings in the third week. He scored 28 Fantasy points, mostly behind 39 yards rushing and two touchdowns. games this year. It does not have the best weapons or the best offensive line, but it might be an option for two-quarter leagues if you need help during the fourth week in Green Bay. It's worth 1% of your FAAB in the deeper leagues.
  • The Cardinals made the right choice to start Rosen in the fourth week against Seattle, and it's worth speculating in the two-quarter leagues. This is not something you want to start, but it should do better than Sam Bradford, even if it does not mean much. I have good hope for Rosen in the long run, but it might not be the most reliable fantasy option as a rookie. However, if you are stuck, I hope Rosen will play well in his first start in the NFL during week 4. He is worth 1% of your FAAB.

Submit candidates: Jimmy Garoppolo (94%), Dak Prescott (53%), Derek Carr (52%)

Run

Key players goodbye: Christian McCaffrey, Chris Thompson, Adrian Peterson

Note injuries: Dalvin Cook (hamstrings), Leonard Fournette (hamstrings), Joe Mixon (knee), Devonta Freeman (knee), Jay Ajayi (back), Matt Breida (knee), LeSean McCoy (ribs), Rex Burkhead (neck ), TJ Yeldon (ankle), Marlon Mack (hamstrings), Alfred Morris (ankle), Darren Sproles (hamstrings)

Priority list: Javorius Allen (48% shareholder), Wendell Smallwood (3%), Chris Ivory (10%), Jalen Richard (10%)

  • Allen may never become a fantasy fantasy option without hurting Alex Collins, but he has been productive in just a few games. He has scored a touchdown each week and has 13 catches this season. He is the favorite of the defeats in Baltimore, and he has at least 13 PPR points in every game. He is clearly not going to score each week and he has only 29 total hits on the year. But in PPR leagues, especially during the weeks off, it can be considered a flexible option. It is worth 5-10 percent of your FAAB.
  • Smallwood would be a potential flexibility option in all leagues this week if Ajayi and Sproles stay out. In the third week, Smallwood shared his playing time with Corey Clement and was extremely productive against the Colts. He completed 10 runs for 56 yards and one touchdown and three catches for 35 yards on five targets. Clement had more work, but the Eagles would rely on both pitchers if Ajayi and Sproles stayed out. As there is a chance that one or both of them may return during week 4 in Tennessee, Smallwood is worth only 5% of your FAAB.
  • Ivory did a great job replacing injured McCoy at Week 3 in Minnesota, and he would again play a leading role if McCoy was to leave Week 4 in Green Bay. Ivory had 20 runs for 56 yards and three passes for 70 yards on four targets against the Vikings. The game script was in his favor, which should not happen against the Packers on the road, but it's worth adding if McCoy is out again. Adrian Peterson (24 points PPR) just managed to roll back Green Bay during week 3. Ivory is worth up to 5% of your FAAB.
  • Richard is not one that you will be comfortable starting unless Marshawn Lynch is injured for the Raiders, and even then, Richard will still play behind Doug Martin. But it's clear that coach Jon Gruden favors Richard for the passes and has two games with at least six catches this season. He scored at least 11 PPR points in the first week against the Rams and the third week in Miami, and in games where you expect the Raiders to score points, it should be valuable. In PPR leagues, Richard is worth up to 5% of your FAAB.

Wide receivers

Key players goodbye: Devin Funchess, Jamison Crowder, Paul Richardson

Note injuries: ONE J. Green (groin), Josh Gordon (hamstring), Doug Baldwin (knee), Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), Anthony Miller (shoulder)

Priority list: Mike Williams (48% owned), Chris Godwin (46%), Tyler Boyd (28%), Antonio Callaway (43%), Geronimo Allison (62%), Jordy Nelson (64%), Ted Ginn (63%) / Cameron Meredith (10%), Christian Kirk (15%), Jakeem Grant (1%) / Albert Wilson (3%)

  • There's a big group of receivers to add this week, so I understand if you do not want Williams to be first. But not only has he played well in three games, but he has an incredible game against the 49ers at home in the fourth week. Williams has 80 receiving yards or touchdown in all three games and has scored at least 10 PPR points each week. The 49ers are half-backs Richard Sherman (calf), and seven receivers have scored or won 100 yards against San Francisco this year. It's worth 15-20% of your FAAB budget.
  • Godwin was one of my favorite receivers coming in the season, and he did not disappoint through three games. He scored on each outing and he has at least 13 PPR points each week. He was eclipsed by Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson, but he just had 10 targets in Week 3 against Pittsburgh and almost had several touchdowns. With the way Tampa Bay throws the ball, I do not expect Godwin to have long periods of bad play. It's worth 15-20% of your FAAB budget.
  • Boyd has been fantastic in the last two games against Baltimore and Carolina with 12 catches for 223 yards and two touchdowns on 16 targets, and he could benefit even more if Green is eliminated. But even if Green plays as expected, he seems on the way to a third year breakout. He also had a good game at Week 4 in Atlanta, and the Falcons allowed seven receivers to score a touchdown or win 77 yards. Boyd is worth 15-20 percent of your FAAB,
  • Callaway is on his way to big games now that he started with the departure of Josh Gordon and was replaced by a quarter with Mayfield. He had 10 targets against the Jets but only managed four catches for 20 yards in the third week. He hopes he will continue to receive 10 targets per week and that he should be considered the No.3 receiver of the season in Oakland. Callaway is worth up to 15% of your FAAB.
  • Allison is one of my favorite pre-season players, and it's good to see him doing well early in the year. He has at least 12 PPR points in each game and scored two of the first three outings. The targets could be a problem for him by sharing the field with Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Jimmy Graham, but he enjoys playing with Aaron Rodgers, even with a bad knee. Allison is heading for a third year escape, and it's worth up to 15% of your FAAB.
  • I do not want to continue Nelson's production of Week 3 in Miami when he's caught six passes for 173 yards and one touchdown on eight targets, but that could be the start of his participation in Oakland. Prior to the third week, Nelson captured five passes for 53 yards on just eight goals in the first two games. I would not overestimate Nelson for the moment, but you can add it to about 10% of your FAAB if it is available for waivers.
  • Ginn and Meredith are worth watching considering their production so far this season. For Ginn, he scored in two of the first three games and has at least six goals each week, and we hope this will continue to move forward. And Meredith saw his first action with the Saints during the third week in Atlanta and scored on his only target with an 11-yard reception. I love Ginn more than Meredith and both receivers are worth only 5 to 10% of your FAAB.
  • Kirk wins his best game so far in his rookie season with seven catches for 90 yards in the third week against Chicago. We hope that he will be able to achieve this performance during the fourth week against Seattle with a new quarterback at Rosen. If all goes well, the pair of rookies has a solid relationship right away, and Kirk could benefit if Larry Fitzgerald is not 100% with his hamstring suffering. Kirk is worth 5-10 percent of your FAAB.
  • Grant was a pleasant surprise to start the season and he actually leads the Dolphins with targets of 14. He has nine catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and the Dolphins use it in the ass game compared to a man back. This is probably not viable, but Grant deserves a look in deeper leagues. And the same goes for Wilson, who has eight passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 11 targets. Tannehill goes around the race and Grant and Wilson did well to justify the extra work. Both are worth up to 5% of your FAAB in deeper leagues.

Submit candidates: Robby Anderson (73%), Pierre Garcon (73%), Brandon Marshall (63%)

Tight ends

Key players goodbye: Jordan Reed

Note injuries: Evan Engram (knee), Jack Doyle (hip), Greg Olsen (foot), Hayden Hurst (foot)

Priority list: Benjamin Watson (35% ownership), Vance McDonald (13%), Hayden Hurst (10%), Ricky Seals-Jones (20%), Rhett Ellison (0%)

  • Watson played his best game of the season during the third week in Atlanta with five catches for 71 yards on six targets. He had a good match in Week 4 with the Giants, who nearly conceded two Jaguars touchdowns this weekend and allowed the Houston team to combine five passes for 115 yards. Watson is worth using a streaming option during the fourth week and is worth 5 to 10% of your FAAB.
  • McDonald was the Steelers' favorite tight winger during the third week in Tampa Bay, against Jesse James. He finished with four catches for 112 yards and one touchdown on five targets. The Steelers apparently want McDonald's to be their first tight game in the passing game now that he is healthy after a foot injury that prevented him from participating in Week 1. He has a tough game against Baltimore, but McDonald's deserves open place on the list. It might not be as productive on a weekly basis, but so far, the Steelers have had a tight score of at least nine PPR points in every game this season. McDonald's worth up to 5% of your FAAB.
  • After being injured on foot during the pre-season, Hurst should return to training this week and could make his NFL debut as early as week 4. Even though he's not playing this week in Pittsburgh, it is not a bad idea to keep it if you have an open place in the list because it is fortunate to be a Fantasy Fantasy option this season. The Ravens have a tight group with Mark Andrews, Nick Boyle and Maxx Williams, but Hurst is likely to be in first place on this list as Baltimore picked him in the first round of this year's NFL Draft. It could eventually become a weekly starter in all leagues and worth up to 5% of your FAAB.
  • I'm hoping that the shift shift to Rosen will help Seals-Jones, who has not been a reliable fantasy option through three games. He scored in the third week against Chicago, but he only got one 35-yard shot on three targets. However, prior to that, he had reached 12 targets in the first two games and had only seven catches for 36 yards. It's not worth starting week 4 against Seattle, but it might be worth getting into deeper leagues. Seals-Jones is worth up to 5% of your FAAB,
  • Ellison should play a bigger role with Engram and he played well in the third week against the Texans with three catches for 39 yards and one touchdown on three targets. In the deeper leagues, it is worth speculating, given the likely increase in playing time, as well as targets, until Engram returns. It is worth 1% of your FAAB.
