Thomas Ravenel will not come back as a Southern charm member of the cast next season, Bravo confirms exclusively to PEOPLE.

The disgraced politician was arrested and charged with assault and second-degree battery on Tuesday, according to the Charleston County Prison Records.

The network's decision came after Ravenel suggested he resign in August, tweeting "I'm not doing the show anymore. In the contract, they have the right to fictionalize your story. They took advantage of me. I decided that I had too much to lose and I informed them that I would not come back. "

Police began investigating Ravenel in May after a woman reported him for sexual assault. A former nanny named Dawn told PEOPLE that she was this woman and alleged that while her daughter was sleeping nearby, she "took her" to the master bedroom, dropped her pants, clothes.

A source tells PEOPLE that Ravenel's arrest is related to his allegations.

Ravenel denied Dawn's accusations through her lawyer, as well as a separate sexual assault charge from a woman she met in Tinder in 2015.

"My client enjoys a certain notoriety, which unfortunately makes it a vulnerable target for such claims," Ravenel's lawyer Richard P. Terbrusch said in a statement after the allegations. "The person described by this woman is just not the man I know. My client is a loving father, a successful business man and a right member of the community. He is appalled and hurt by these allegations – and is committed to defending his reputation in the appropriate court. "
