Will Smith celebrated his 50th birthday by jumping from a helicopter over the Grand Canyon

Will Smith celebrated his 50th birthday with a big jump.

In a video broadcast on YouTube, Smith's jump to the elastic jumped from a helicopter (heli-jump) over the Grand Canyon. It all started with a challenge from Yes Theory. "I have lived a lifetime feeling overwhelmed and smothered and controlled by fear," said the actor. "There is nothing worse than walking frightened."

Smith's whole family – including his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, girl Willow Smith and son Jaden Smith– All stood by his side as he prepared to take off. A pre-jump interview was given by a colleague Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks in the show.

the Men in black star and his family arrived in a motorhome, which contains some nostalgic value for the actor. Smith explained that he and his family arrived at the Grand Canyon in 1976 in the same type of vehicle, but that their trip there, as a child, caused fear because of the height. Smith said that fear was always a dominant emotion when he was a child.

The 50-year-old has documented the days and months leading up to the epic jump. He posted a family photo on Tuesday and wrote, "My team is holding me back for my big 5-0."

In another video, Smith called his boyfriend and noted Impossible mission stunt helicopter pilot Tom Cruise for help.

According to bungee experts, Smith jumped 550 feet and was restrained by 200 feet of active cordon. The helicopter jump is one of the most dangerous types of jump to the elastic band because there is no solid foundation.

The weather in the Grand Canyon plays a major role in the success of the jump. Strong winds (over 45 mph) could prevent the jump from occurring. When he was warned of possible weather variables, Smith joked that he would be very upset if he could not jump.

Throughout the video, Will spoke openly about fear and conquering that feeling. His son Jaden joked that the biggest fear of his father is "to have a fear". The only thing to fear is fear itself?

Willow said that she wanted her father to do what made him happy, but she was nervous before.

Before the giant step, Navajo Medicine Man Jason Bitsuie blessed Smith and was protected and guided by the sun.

Before he jumped, Smith needed medical clearance. He took a measure of oxygen and blood pressure. "You are on the point" Dr. Ala Stanford told him.

"I'm a little shaken," he said. The doctor, however, told him that it was "completely normal" and that it would be worse if he was not nervous.

"You are mentally, physically and spiritually ready for this moment, so just enjoy the moment."

While he was stuck in the right gear and before the final check and takeoff, the nerves were pretty obvious, but he remained positive. "Never seek!" he shouted while waiting for the green light to jump.

When he finally jumped and flew over the Grand Canyon, he exclaimed, "It's beautiful! It's beautiful!"

His family welcomed him with his hugs and his love after returning to the ground. "Nothing will be more frightening than that," he told his family. "It goes from absolute terror to the most magnificent happiness you have ever felt in your life … All the Grand Canyon is mine."

The ex-wife of Smith Sheree Zampino Jada held as he jumped and both of them said that they will never have to say anything to Will again because he can do it all by himself.

"There's a boiling idea in my head that fear is a cage and that it's trapping you," he said. "My father passed away a little over a year ago and there is something in the confrontation with death that makes you live more freely."

He summarized his last thoughts. "Life is hard, you could be hurt, your heart could be broken," he said. "But you still have to commit … Do not hesitate, go for it."

the I robot star has received fun birthday wishes from famous faces, including James Lebron, Rev Run, DJ Khaled, Jimmy Kimmel, Eva Longoria, Michael Strahan and more. His wife Jada celebrated his birthday on September 18, but told Ribeiro "my life is my birthday" because of her benevolent husband.
