Lady Judi said that Spacey "is and was a great actor"

Lady Judi Dench said that it was wrong to remove her performance from Kevin Spacey in a recent movie.

"I can not under any circumstances approve – whatever he did – that you start shooting him," she told a film festival in Spain.

She said that Spacey was "invaluable comfort" when they worked on a movie shortly after the death of her husband.

A number of allegations of sexual misconduct have been brought against the Oscar winner, which he denies.

The scandal led Sir Ridley Scott to fulfill his role as oil tycoon, Jean Paul Getty, in All the Money in the World and resume his scenes with Christopher Plummer.

Plummer was then nominated for an Oscar, a Bafta and a Golden Globe for his contribution to the film.

The actress appeared with Spacey in 2001 in the movie The Shipping News

Speaking Tuesday at the San Sebastian Festival, Dame Judi suggested that the decision to erase Spacey's appearance creates a worrying precedent.

"Are we obliged to go back through history now and whoever has misbehaved in any way, or has broken the law, or committed some kind of offense, will- they always be cut? " she told reporters.

"Are we going to exclude them from our history?" I do not know any of the conditions, but nonetheless I think he's and was a terrific actor … and a good friend. "

The 83-year-old said she could not "imagine" what Spacey was currently doing – with whom she was working on the 2001 movie The Shipping News.

A spokesman for the actor said last November that he "took the necessary time to get an evaluation and treatment."
