GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WOOD) – The slight risk of extreme weather in central and southern Michigan later on Tuesday is somewhat unusual, as this year has been relatively quiet in terms of weather conditions.
SERIOUS METEOROLOGICAL TOTALS
As of September 24, Michigan has only recorded 273 reports of severe weather, well below the current average of 360 reports and well below that of its Midwestern counterparts in Wisconsin, the United States. Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
The calm weather trend is national, based on the current number of tornadoes. This year's tornado is currently well below the current average of 1,231 reports and ranks second after 2013 for the smallest number of tornadoes in 13 years.
What comes
The Storm 8 team follows a cold front that crosses the north-central plains towards the Great Lakes, which could worsen Michigan weather reports.
The dew point temperatures are similar to those of summer, indicating a higher humidity level in the atmosphere.
The combination of dynamic air and a powerful lifting mechanism prompted the Storm Prediction Center to place portions of the Great Lakes in the low-risk area for the weather until Tuesday night. If traveling south, be aware that the low-risk area also includes much of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.
According to the HRRR Futurecast, the main storm line that could contain extreme weather is expected to move into western Michigan around 11 pm.
The main threat, which is often the case in Michigan, will be the wind in a straight line. Western Michigan is included in the tread where the Storm Prediction Center thinks that there is a 15% chance that gusts of wind will exceed 50 knots (58 mph) within a radius of 25 miles.
Although the main risk is the wind in a straight line, there is a small chance of a tornado.
