The third super typhoon in a month is heading to Asia, this time targeting Japan.

The Super Typhoon Trami, which contains sustained winds of 241 kilometers at the time (150 mph), equates to a Category 5 Atlantic hurricane.

According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, the storm is expected to weaken over the next 72 hours and hit the Ruyuku Islands in southern Japan from Friday.

It is expected to turn north and northeast, causing heavy rains and floods in Okinawa before traveling to Tokyo this weekend.

Weather experts warn of destructive winds, flash floods, landslides and widespread disruption of travel across Japan.

The 2018 typhoon season has been particularly active this month. Jebi reached super-typhoon status at the end of August, but she weakened as she hit Shikoku and the Kansai region of Japan on September 4, killing 11 people.

Ten days ago, the Super Typhoon Mangkhut hit the Philippines, killing at least 70 people before traveling to Hong Kong and the densely populated province of Guangdong.

The super storm hit millions of people in the Philippines and China, causing extensive damage to entire villages and destroying infrastructure in large areas.
