MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) is no longer the only Philippine university in the Times Higher Education (THE) world university rankings.

De La Salle University (DLSU) made its debut in the newly published 2019 World World Ranking The World University, joining the 801-1000-person bracket.

UP, which has steadily climbed its rankings since its first appearance in the 2017 standings, is now in the 501-600 range, up from its previous ranking in the 601-800 bracket.

In a statement, Raymond Tan, vice-chancellor of the DLSU for research and innovation, said that the inclusion of the school in the list is proof of the adaptation of his faculty to the creation of a "modern university".

"The entry of DLSU into the research-oriented THE ranking is an important step in our quest to become a world-renowned university," Tan said.

The University's global ranking based its scores on 13 performance indicators that cover teaching at 30%, research at 30%, quotes at 30%, international perspectives at 7.5% and knowledge transfer at 2.5%. Universities are rated on a scale of 100 based on these parameters.

In the last standings, UP scored 33.5 to 37 out of 100, while LSUs scored 19 to 25.9 out of 100.
