They all wanted to be parents.
And when they saw an opportunity to become them, they seized it.
But the decision by two homosexual penguins to steal a chick from a "negligent" mom and dad led to the creation of a zoo in Denmark.
According to the Danish media, the couple "saw" the parents of the young male chick go for a swim prompting them to take things into their own hands.
When the parents returned, the two refused to return their "foster child", triggering a battle between the penguin and the penguin and the "adopted".
Finally, zookeeper Sandie Hedgegard Munck intervened, saving the girl and reuniting her with her biological parents.
She explained to the Danish publication DR that the baby was not alone long ago when gay penguins came in.
"I think the female has gone out to take a bath, so it's time for the men to take care of the child," she said.
Ms. Munck stated that the father may have left the (gay) couple thinking that the chick had been abandoned and that it was their chance to grab the baby.
She said that while the mother was desperately searching for her missing baby, the father was quite nonchalant throughout the ordeal.
"I know that the woman cares a lot about the child and she is also very aggressive towards us, animal lover, if we are too close to the child. I could not imagine that she would leave him, while the man is a little more relaxed and may have trouble moving away a bit, "she said.
Once it became clear that the gay couple would not abandon their "adopted child", she intervened to reunite the girl with her parents.
But all was not lost for the very lucky gay couple.
Both had their own eggs to feed.
