CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland man is accused of killing a prostitute 20 years ago after confessing to investigators that he killed the woman and drove the FBI to where he said he buried the woman 20 years ago.
Michael Thompson, 64, is charged with aggravated murder.
Federal agents found the body Tuesday in train and Richner avenues in the city's reserve district, according to court records.
FBI spokeswoman Vicki Anderson said she could confirm that the FBI was involved in the searches, but declined to comment further because that is the case of the Cleveland police.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office has not positively identified the woman's remains. His cause of death was not determined, but his death was tried as a homicide, according to a court record.
Thompson is not in custody and a warrant was issued Wednesday for his arrest.
Thompson made the confession after falling ill chronically, police said.
On August 20, Thompson called the police and asked officers to come to his home, according to court records.
The third district detectives spoke with Thompson, who told them that he had killed a prostitute about 20 years ago and that he buried his body somewhere near Train and 30th Street West, according to the court archives.
He gave the police a written statement and indicated on a map where he had buried the woman's body, according to police reports.
The agents drove Thompson to the site where he indicated where he had buried the body.
Cleveland police, the FBI, Cuyahoga County sheriffs and the Medical Examiner's office visited the area on Monday and recovered the remains, according to court records.
Thompson was sentenced to 18 months in prison for aggravated assault in 1990.
