Eight suspects have been arrested and registered, and arrest warrants have been issued for nine other people, as part of a series of coordinated flights from the California Apple Store, the State Attorney General said Thursday. Xavier Becerra.
Thefts totaled more than a million dollars in stolen goods and occurred in 19 counties up to San Diego and north up to Butte, according to a press release. Becerra has sued for conspiracy to commit a large robbery against 17 suspects in Fresno, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
The robberies involved several hooded suspects entering Apple, seizing exhibits and fleeing. According to police diaries, the flights took place quickly, driven by surveillance videos. In some cases, they carried more than $ 20,000 worth of goods in seconds.
Seven of the suspects were registered in Alameda County Prison, the eighth being held in Sonoma County, according to the press release. The arrest warrants are issued for the nine others,
Roseville police arrested three men earlier this month in connection with the robberies after the Westfield Galleria Mall's Apple store reported three incidents of robbery in five days. Juwan Potter, 20; Melvin Barlow, 21; and Quincy Carter Jr., 21, were arrested after fleeing on foot. They were sentenced to South Placer County Prison on September 12th.
The seven suspects of Alameda were arrested in Oakland, Sgt. Ray Kelly told SFGate on Tuesday.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the San Luis Obispo and Oakland Police Departments, with additional law enforcement assistance in each of the 19 counties, according to the press release.
"The successful collaborative efforts of law enforcement forces have resulted in the dismantling of a vast criminal network," said Oakland Police Chief Anne E. Kirkpatrick in a statement.
