The Patriots and the Jets are not exactly bitter rivals, but that did not stop a New York staff member from doing research in New England.
According to Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, the team was troubled by technical difficulties with the helmets in each of the first three games of the season. Bates certainly has reason to be frustrated by the problem, but instead of appealing to the league, he used his ventilation session to cast a shadow over the enemy of his team's division.
The Patriots, of course, are not strangers to helmet malfunctions. In the first quarter of the 2015 Patriots game against the Steelers, Al Michaels of NBC announced that Pittsburgh was receiving 98.5 The Sports Hub Patriots in their helmets. But by league protocol, the helmets of New England were closed until the problem was solved.
All in all, it was rather strange that Bates took a shot at the Patriots, especially considering that both teams have not yet managed to compete this season.
