As part of a policy never thought of just a few years ago, travelers are now allowed to carry marijuana along with their other travel items while traveling from the airport International Los Angeles.
The airport police say it will not stop you or stop you if it finds marijuana, commonly known as a weed or pot, in your handbag.
The official website of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has released its new marijuana policy that states: "In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Service will allow passengers to travel with eight grams of concentrated marijuana. "
Proposition 64 was a California referendum that came into effect on January 1, 2018.
According to NBC 4 Los Angeles, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) can still refuse boarding flights if it finds quantities of marijuana that the federal government considers illegal in travelers' hand luggage, but the police will not confiscate them legal amount of an ounce in the state of California.
This issue is primarily about jurisdiction, as the new LAX security policy does not apply to other states or countries where marijuana is not yet legalized, such as Texas or Singapore.
While the federal government still considers marijuana illegal, the sale and recreational use of the drug has been legalized in California, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, DC, Maine, Vermont and in Massachusetts.
