LSU Wayde Sims shot dead: 20 years arrested, accused of murder | Crime / police

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of LSU basketball player Wayde Sims, the Baton Rouge police said Saturday morning.

Dyteon Simpson, 20, of 4310 Burgess Dr. in Baker, was sentenced to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for second degree murder.

The Attorney General of East Baton Rouge Parish, Hillar Moore, said that Simpson's bail had not been fixed yet, but that the case will be judged by a grand jury, in the as it relates to second-degree murder.

Simpson reportedly shot Sims early Friday morning.

Aside from a fraternity party near the Southern University campus early Friday morning, a fight soon turned into a hand-to-hand fight and, shortly after midnight, a gunshot rang out. Sgt. Jean McKneely said Friday. Sims fell. Everyone ran.

Sims died later in a hospital. An autopsy on Friday revealed that he had died of a gunshot to the head, said Baton Rouge's East Coroner, Dr. Beau Clark.

Police responded to the shooting around 12:30 pm near a Subway restaurant in the 600 block of Harding Boulevard, about a block away from Southern AW. Mumford Stadium.

BRPD has released one of the videos that describe the battle that preceded the shooting, hoping that someone could identify the people involved in his death.

The video shows about eight men in street fighting at one point, where three or four of them punched each other, until two men separated from the group. Then a shot is fired. McKneely said that the investigators were specifically trying to identify and locate the individual who is seen near the end of the video by wearing red pants with a white stripe on the leg and a gray shirt – the only one that is visible. one of the two men separated from the group just before the shot. McKneely identified the other man separated from the group as Sims.

Sims was the 2014-2015 player of the Louisiana Gatorade at U-High, where he led the Cubs to three consecutive state titles from 2014 to 2016.

Wayde Sims' father, Wayne, also played with the LSU basketball coach, Dale Brown, from 1987 to 1991.
