Authorities say they're investigating after a Rutgers student was killed after being hit by a car on Friday night.

The student was identified as Cory Aufiero, 19, of Colts Neck, Middlesex County Attorney, Andrew Carey, in a statement.

Prosecutors said the accident occurred around 9:30 pm. On Friday in New Brunswick, a student from Rutgers lost his footing and fell into a traffic jam near Albany and Somerset streets.

Aufiero was declared dead on the scene, the statement said.

New Brunswick police have summoned 36-year-old Nissan Sentra driver David Stewart, of Somerset, to drive with a suspended license.

We did not know if additional charges were expected.

An autopsy is in progress.

The survey is active and continues. Anyone with information is asked to call Agent Cahill at (732) 745-5200 or Detective Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Attorney's Office at (732) 745-4336.
