The dangers of excessive consumption of alcohol

It also puts you at risk for heart disease, cancer and brain damage and can lead to liver damage. The list goes on, but you get the picture.

Completely giving up alcohol can seem daunting, but it's hard to overlook its benefits. You wake up with more energy, your skin shines, you get better exercise results and your liver will be a happy camper.

Alcohol in moderation

However, not everyone wants to stop drinking. If it is you, moderation is the key. For men, this means one to two drinks a day and for women, only one. You must be in good health, not pregnant (or trying to get pregnant) and take no medicine. (prescription or over-the-counter).

According to the Mayo Clinic, moderate alcohol consumption can have health benefits, but it is not without risk. They also remind us that the evidence is not certain and, more importantly, that alcohol does not benefit everyone who drinks. In other words, if you do not drink, do not start.
