American Airlines raises prices for drinks

Get your drinks "cheap" while you can.

On October 1, American Airlines raises prices for beer, wine and alcohol by $ 1, according to USA Today.

An airline spokesman said that in-flight drink options have improved in recent years. Although you can spend $ 8 to get a Bud Light, you can also opt for something like Goose Island's IPA, Samuel Adams Octoberfest or the Belgian White Fat Tire at the same price.

Spirits will cost $ 9 with options such as Bombay Sapphire Gin, Disaronno Amaretto and Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Woodford Reserve, among many others. The wine is at the same price and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Sauvignon Blanc. Some longer flights also offer a prosecco.

More Travel + Leisure:

All non-alcoholic beverages for economy class passengers are free for US passengers.

Passengers traveling to Europe, Asia and some cities in Latin America and Hawaii can get beer and wine for free. Spirits are only free for economy class passengers traveling to Japan, Hong Kong, Sydney and Auckland.

However, do not forget that passengers sitting in the extra main cabin receive free drinks (just like those in first class and business class). Prices for the upgrade start at $ 20, so depending on the number of drinks in flight you order, extra leg room could be profitable.

American is not the only airline to increase menu prices this year. In March, Southwest Airlines started charging $ 6 for wine and beer and $ 7 for spirits on board.
