A mother is on the run with her three children in defiance of a court decision and her husband is in jail for murder, Southern Minnesota officials said Sunday.
The Mower County Sheriff's Office is trying to locate Izetta Cooley, 39, and Mateo, 10, Mollycia, 11, and Marco, 17.
The mother "is sentenced by the court not to have contact with the children [and] came to the residence where they lived and took them away, "reads a statement from the sheriff's office. "Due to recent events, the authorities are concerned about their well-being."
Cooley's husband, Miguel J. Cooley Sr., 44, is in Mower County Jail for murder. Cooley of Moorhead shot and killed a 20-year-old man sitting on a sidewalk in front of a McDonald's restaurant on Main Avenue in Moorhead, according to the Clay County Attorney's Office.
The authorities stated that jealousy appeared to be the motive for the September 23 shooting, as a phone number belonging to Izetta Cooley had been found in the room of the shooting victim, Gabriel Perez, aged 20. years.
The children were last seen at Rose Creek, southeast of Austin, around 10:30 pm. Saturday, the sheriff's office said. It is thought that they are traveling in a 2007 Suzuki XL7 black with Minnesota license plate 103, WJC.
Izetta Cooley is an American Indian, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 180 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair. His residence is in Moorhead, but the authorities say they are not sure of his destination.
