Sunday, September 30, 2018, 1:17 pm – Three people were reported missing in Greece on Sunday (September 30th) after swirling winds and torrential rain caused flash floods in several parts of the country.

A rare type of tropical storm known as Medicane began on Saturday and has so far mainly affected areas of Euboea Island, east of mainland Greece and the southern Peloponnese peninsula.

State television said a young man and a middle-aged couple had disappeared in Evia. The civil protection services said they had launched a search and rescue operation near the town of Mantoudi.

Vessels took place in Greece's main ports and traffic was disrupted in several areas as roads were flooded due to heavy rains.

Firefighters have received more than 1,300 calls to help remove fallen trees and other objects and help evacuate people trapped in flooded cars and homes.

Temperatures plunged unexpectedly up to 10 degrees Celsius this week. Wind speed has reached 100 km / h in several regions and is expected to intensify.
