The Patriots were almost flawless in the first period. New England won the possession time battle by holding the ball for 19 minutes and 28 seconds against Miami's 10 minutes and 32 seconds.

The two teams tied for the one-piece turnovers, but Tom Brady took advantage of Ryan Tannehill's fumbles and the Dolphins failed to punish Brady for his interception.

Receiver Josh Gordon will make his debut as a Patriot Sunday afternoon as New England tries to shed two games when it hosts the Miami Dolphins in first place at Gillette Stadium.

Gordon was acquired Browns after the loss to Jacksonville at the end of the second week, but a hamstring problem prevented him from getting into the game in Detroit last Sunday. The big receiver seemed smooth and comfortable during the media period to practice the last two weeks.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels recently said he was not worried about Gordon's ability to continue the fight, saying the decision to activate him was based solely on health. The addition of Gordon could at least prevent the teams from doubling their capacity and scrambling Rob Gronkowski, a strategy used by the Jaguars and Lions in the past two weeks.

The Patriots also welcomed Trey Flowers and Patrick Chung, who missed the loss to the Jaguars.

Inactive Patriots were cornerback Eric Rowe, tight halfback Jacob Hollister, offensive linemen Ted Karras and Cole Croston, and defensive leaders Keionta Davis, Derek Rivers and Geneo Grissom.

The inactive of the Dolphins are: Luke Falk and David Fales quarterbacks, Devante Parkerm security receiver Reshad Jones, defensive end Andre Branch, linebacker Chase Allen and narrow needle A.J. Derby.

Gronkowski was restricted in practice throughout the week and was qualified as suspect with an ankle injury in the injury report.

Danny Amendola, former receiver of wide patrols, is preparing to face his former team.

John Simon, the six-year veteran from the Ohio State, was officially transferred Tuesday and officially signed the next day. Simon has spent his career swinging between the outside linebacker and the defensive end, excelling when he is used as a ferryman.

Simon played for Ravens, Texans and Colts before landing in New England. His most recent getaway took place in Indianapolis, but the Colts cut him off in early September.

Ryan Tannehill and his Miami teammates arrive at Gillette Stadium, one of three NFL teams that still holds a perfect record.

The Dolphins defeated the Titans, Jets and Raiders to open their season. For Miami to go 4-0, they will have to break a series of nine defeats at Foxborough that dates back to 2008.

Tannehill, who earned the league's fourth-highest score (121.8) in the league in three games, will watch Danny Amendola in the center and Kenny Stills deep in the Patriots' defense. Stills averages 20.4 receiving yards this season, which is consistent with his three touchdowns.

When Tom Brady gets the ball, the Dolphins will turn to the closed corner Xavien Howard and a defensive line that has provided a solid defense against the race and a pass passes even without Ndamukong Suh.
