HERRIMAN – Three people died after the crash of the car they were in and came to rest in a ravine at Herriman on Sunday, the police said.

The crew members, Sunday evening, were working to pull out the three victims, who are believed to be adults, from the red car, said Police Lieutenant Cody Stromberg.

Someone spotted the car in the ditch on the north side of the Herriman Highway, near the 7300 West, and called the police, Stromberg said. Officers responded around 5 pm but believe that the car had been there for several hours.

Police have not yet been able to determine the age and sex of the deceased and were trying to reconstruct what happened, Stromberg said. He did not know if anyone else was in the car.

No other vehicle was involved and there was no indication that the vehicle had caught fire, Stromberg said.

Sunday was the first day of the Herriman Police Department, after being separated from the largest unified police department at midnight. The 35 officers of the department were sworn in on Thursday.
