Raab warns of the limits of tradeoffs on Brexit

Britain's Brexit Secretary will warn the EU today that his government's willingness to compromise in divorce talks is "not without limits".

In a speech at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham, Dominic Raab will repeat London's threat to move away if it fails to reach an agreement.

"My approach to Brexit is pragmatic, not dogmatic", he says, according to extracts published by the party.

"But our willingness to compromise is not without limits. We leave the European Union in fact, not just in name."

EU leaders rejected Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May's plan for close trade ties after Brexit and demanded that she rework ideas before a summit next month.

The two sides still hope to reach an agreement later this year, before Brexit in March.

Mr Raab said the UK plan "manages the risks of Brexit" and "seizes the opportunities" while maintaining the border with Ireland.

"If an attempt is made to lock us in the back of the European Economic Area and the Customs Union … or if the only EU offer threatens the integrity of our union, we will not have no choice but to leave without an agreement, "he will say.

Ms. May told the BBC yesterday that she wanted more details on the EU's objections.

"My mood is to listen to what the EU has to say about its concerns and to sit down and discuss them with them," she said.
