Sean O'Malley will not be fighting at UFC 229. The 23-year-old has announced he has failed an anti-doping test and will not be able to compete next Saturday.

O'Malley had to fight José Alberto Quiñónez. He explained on Instagram that he thought he had taken a tainted supplement and that he was sending samples to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to prove his innocence.

As O'Malley pointed out in his post, the UFC generally announces violations, but the company changed its policy in July. UFC will now only announce suspension after case resolution. The O'Malley case is still under review, so he decided to announce the news. He did not want fans to wonder why he would not fight at UFC 229.

According to O'Malley, he identified a dietary supplement that he said led to the failure of the test. He sent this bottle and a sealed bottle of the supplement to USADA to test. He hopes this will prove that he has been tested positive inadvertently.

O'Malley ended his statement by apologizing to fans who wanted to see him fight at the event. He also stated that he had no intention of cheating during his career and that he was hoping to fight again.

O'Malley, 23, is 10-0 in his brief MMA career. The UFC has not announced its possible replacement for UFC 229.
