Injured player in Peach Co. Friday football match is dead

Atlanta, Georgia – Linebacker Dylan Thomas of Pike County died after a serious head injury during Friday's football game with the Peach County Trojans.

A Pike County Administrator contacted our James Marvin tonight with the news that Thomas was dead. Peach County High School has also posted a message of condolence, and the social media accounts of family members also have messages about the death.

According to a report from our sister station 11 Alive in Atlanta, Thomas was injured in a room in the third quarter and was flown. Several family members reported that Thomas had suffered a serious head injury and that doctors were struggling to control the players' brain swelling despite emergency surgery.

Facebook user Greg Parrott shared this video with Facebook of Peach and Pke players meeting to pray on the field after the injury.

Throughout the weekend, social media publications called for prayer from people related to the Zebulon area and Peach County.

11 Alive reported that a vigil at Pike County High School around 18h. On Sunday night, hundreds of people gathered to pray. But school administrators say the 16-year-old died at around 8 pm
