A man's attempt to make a risky selfie over the swollen Potomac River nearly turned to death on Sunday, when he slipped into the raging waters and had to be saved by passersby.
The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service told FOX5 that the incident occurred after 5:30 pm, while the man was taking a selfie from the Maryland side near from Great Falls.
"Some passersby intervened and slowed down this person," Pete Piringer, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire Department, told FOX5. "We think he was clinging to obstacles in the water, the water was very high."
The man was spotted by the spectators, who then took it out of the water. The video taken by a spectator shows the efforts to get the man out of the raging waters.
Firefighters arriving at the scene were able to treat the man. The man, who was not identified, was seriously injured, but was expected to survive and be taken to the hospital, Piringer said.
