Weeks before Halloween, the holiday season may seem a long way off.

But BestBlackFriday.com on Monday released its list of store closures for Thanksgiving Day 2018, a call from 60 retailers that will not open their traditional stores on Nov. 22.

Costco, Ikea, Sam's Club, Home Depot and Lowe's are among the big names in Thanksgiving's third annual fence list of holiday website.

"At this point in the year, we have the most confirmed closures we've ever had with 60 retailers," said Phillip Dengler, head of content writing and marketing at BestBlackFriday.com, who has begun contacting the shops at the beginning of September.

The stores on the list have always kept their doors shut during the holidays, and Dengler expects the list to grow. Although the site has not confirmed any new closures this year, Dengler said that there had been some surprises last year.

In 2017, GameStop opened Thanksgiving for the first time in years and Stein Mart and Shoe Carnival closed after being opened in previous years.

"While we do not expect big retailers to change course, we anticipate the potential closure of one or two mid-level retailers," Dengler said.

According to the National Retail Federation, 174 million people shopped online and online during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, which ended with Cyber Monday.

ShopperTrak found that pedestrian traffic on Thanksgiving Day was down, while black Friday traffic remained stable in 2017. The market research firm predicts that Black Friday will be the largest shopping day of the day. 'year.

Black Friday earned its name because it was considered the day of the year by retailers who were profitable or were "in the dark". Almost a decade ago, sales slowly began to climb in Thanksgiving, and in 2012 most major retailers were open on the fourth Thursday of November.

Despite the outcry and the buyers threatening to boycott, the opening hours were moved earlier. Last year, J.C. Penney began his sale at 2 pm. Thanksgiving and Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy started their sales at 5 pm.

Last year, a survey of BestBlackFriday.com revealed that 57% of Americans were against Thanksgiving openings, while only 16% had favored them.

"Many people are still strongly opposed to the idea that retailers are opening their doors for Thanksgiving," Dengler said. "Since Thanksgiving is a family affair, a majority of people think stores should be closed the same day."

Although a minority, the new survey of the website shows that more people are getting used to the idea. Nearly a quarter of the 1,069 people surveyed this year said they were in favor of vacation openings, an increase of almost 9 percentage points from last year.

What time will the stores be served? Thanksgiving store sales this year are not yet public.

"The stores are always reluctant to tell us when they will be open for Thanksgiving and what their hours will be," Dengler said. "Since most of the big national retailers are open for Thanksgiving, we think it's because the competition is much more fierce."
