Vincent Gray, former mayor of the city, a member of the Security Council, said he was injured by a bouncer in a nightclub, who pushed him to the fall on Saturday, causing him to fall.
Gray told the police that an employee pushed him to DC Eagle, on Benning Road NE, injuring him. The Metropolitan Police Service called the report an assault.
Management said in a statement that Gray had refused to provide proper identification and had been told to wait outside.
Sheila Bunn, Gray's chief of staff, said the Board member had gone to DC Eagle around 9:30 pm Saturday as part of the city's Art All Night event.
An employee at the door asked for Gray's identification and the board member showed his board's board ID, Bunn said. According to Bunn, the bouncer said Gray, 75, was to show a piece of ID with a birth date.
Gray asked how he was treated and the employee pushed him out of the door, which made him fall, according to Bunn.
Bunn told News4 that Gray had said, "Do not I look old enough?"
The fall hurt Gray's back and bruised his hands, Bunn said.
Bunn said that one of the club's owners came to the front door and "was horrified" that Gray "was treated this way".
DC Eagle gave Sunday to News4 the following statement:
"The Board member, Gray, attempted to enter the DC Eagle last night, but refused to provide an appropriate ID to our door staff after asking many times, as required by DC law. He asked to see a landlord and was warned that he should wait outside. "
Management did not specify if Gray had been pushed.
Gray said in a tweet Monday morning that he was "bruised and painful".
"I appreciate the concern and support that I have received from many of you. It is essential that bouncers and security personnel know they never get their hands on a client. except to prevent / break a physical altercation. We treat each other with respect. "tweet said.
The gay nightclub hosted a photo shoot with a glam team, a silent disco, a showcase of the DJ battle and a fire performance for Art All Night, according to the event's website.
Gray was mayor of Washington DC from 2011 to 2014.
