According to the Associated Press, Trump spent much of his rally Saturday in West Virginia discussing his special ties with Kim. At one point, he yelled, "I like him, he likes me!" before explaining how much they have grown since their summit in Singapore.
"When I did it – and I was really hard, and he too, and we were going back and forth – and then we fell in love," Trump said. "OK, no, really, he wrote me beautiful letters, and these are good letters, we fell in love."
The comment seemed to be a reference to a note sent by Trump in July, in which the despot called it "Your Excellency" – such a nice match, Trump ignored the fact that North Korea would have started developing a ballistic missile intercontinental to hit the United States. This is just one example of how Kim did not follow through on his nuclear de-escalation plans, but Trump continues to sing his praises anyway, going forward with his project of meeting with Kim for a second summit.
As the leader of North Korea, Kim allegedly executed hundreds of people, allegedly murdered his own half-brother and arrested tens of thousands of political dissidents in prison.
Among many other atrocities. But one way or another, this did not stop Trump from turning their bromance into a campaign topic in the Heartland.
