Cosmic rays – high-energy particles that have traveled through space – are making their way through the Earth and back.
But particle physicists know – this is what scientists call the Standard Model (MS) of particle physics – should not be able to do it.
There are low-energy neutrinos that can fragment miles of rock unaffected, but high-energy neutrinos have "large cross-sections," which means they're almost always going to hit something.
But since March 2016, researchers have been puzzled by two strange events on the icy continent, where cosmic rays have sprung from the Earth and have been detected in space.

The ANITA antenna (ANTI), NASA's Antarctic transient antenna, picked up by balloons, picks up signals in the wrong direction.
A report published Sept. 28 by Penn State University, showing that there have recently been more ascending particles.
Derek Fox, the lead author of the new paper, said that he had discovered ANITA events in May 2018.
"I thought, 'It does not make much sense,'" he told Live Science.
"But the [ANITA] The result is very intriguing, so I started checking.

"I started talking to my office neighbor Steinn Sigurdsson [the second author on the paper, who is also at Penn State] whether we could perhaps obtain more plausible explanations than the documents published to date. "
But they have since realized that they may have come across a change in the game of physics.
Derek added, "That's what really motivated me and I watched the ANITA events with the utmost seriousness."
"That's what physicists live in. Break down models, establish new constraints [on reality], learn about the universe we did not know. "
The YouTube conspiracy channel, secureteam10, announced the news to their subscribers yesterday.

Since then, the video has recorded more than 170,000 visits.
And viewers quickly put forward their claims.
"Maybe these particles are a sort of extraterrestrial teleportation instead of just data," it was said.
Another added: "Does anyone want to come to Antarctica to find the entrance? Someone can get off?"
And a third suggested: "Maybe they play with our time?"
