Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the second time he has to fight the disease and the third time he is being treated for cancer.
Allen, who announced the new Monday on his website and through social media, said the doctors had already started treatment and that he was considering "aggressively fighting".
"I am very grateful for the support I have received from my family and friends," Allen wrote. "And I have enjoyed the support of all team members and the community in the past, and I count on this support now to meet this challenge."
Allen, 65, first met with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in November 2009, but overcame the disease with chemotherapy and other medical treatments. He remained in constant communication with the Blazers and his many other businesses and charities throughout his fight, and said Monday that he would do the same thing now.
Allen, who usually visits Portland during the training camp to watch at least one day of training, did not visit it this year.
The owner of the Blazers has defeated cancer twice, including one with Hodgkin's disease in 1983. This disease, which Allen fought with for months of radiation therapy, led him to retire from Microsoft , that he co-founded with Bill Gates. Allen bought the Blazers five years later and has been involved in his operations ever since.
"It has happened a lot in medicine since I overcame this disease in 2009," Allen wrote Monday. "My doctors are optimistic that the latest treatments will work, just like me."

I recently learned that non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for which I had been treated in 2009 was back. My team of doctors has started treating the disease and I plan to fight it aggressively.
Medicine has evolved a lot since I overcame this disease in 2009. My doctors are optimistic that the latest treatments, like me, will work well.
I will continue to stay involved with Vulcan, the Allen Institutes, Seahawks and Trail Blazers, as I have done in the past. I have confidence in the management teams to manage their ongoing operations during my treatment.
I am very grateful for the support I have received from my family and friends. And I have appreciated the support of all team members and the community in the past, and I hope to count on this support now to meet this challenge.
