The Spider-Man text message scene is perfect

There are many good cutscenes in the new version of the PS4. Spider Man Game. My favorite was all about an SMS conversation.

Towards the middle of the main story, there is a pause. Spider-Man caught Mister Negative, Private Martin Li, and reconnected with his former girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson. In this Spider Man MJ knows Peter's secret identity. In fact, the challenges of his second superheroic life contributed to their breakup. Now a reporter for the Daily Bugle, MJ continued the same investigation as Peter and the two shared information. Together, they could possibly stop Mister Negative and save New York. Unfortunately (or, finally, thankfully), working together has resurfaced their familiar relationship problems.

Since Peter is constantly dealing with supervillans and their deadly plots, he feels protective of the non-superpowered people of his life, especially Mr. J. Mary Jane, however, naturally wants Peter to consider her as a partner and not a person in need of constant protection. She knows that she could help more than she does, if only he let her do it. I could imagine a good letter from Dr. Nerdlove, and Doc would probably answer with a version of "you both care about each other, then use your words. "

Everything comes to mind when Peter's protection makes him misinterpret a situation that MJ was mastering, which cost them access to an informant with crucial information that could have helped them stop Negative's plan faster. The perpetrator being finally locked up, Peter tries to call MJ to see if he can fix things, but he goes right to voicemail right away. If you have already had a tense text conversation and loaded subtext with another significant or ex, you can probably understand each part of this exchange. It contains all the successes: sentences that do not end with rules … except the most emphatic. An ambiguous language that leads to a misunderstanding but ultimately allows both people to say what they really think. Even the pace is perfect, with fast tracking texts that stumble upon the heels of their predecessors. The only thing missing is an awkward auto-correction interjection.

We see the whole exchange from Peter's point of view, so we have his reactions to MJ's texts as he flips casually around Manhattan. We hear panic in his voice when he realizes that he may have accidentally ended things, and feel his worry about asking if she really wants it. We hear her cautious excitement to learn that she is not doing it, her persistent misunderstanding of what she wants from him. When she types that it takes time to understand, he exclaims, but replies conscientiously: "Of course. Me too."

I liked this scene for the same reasons that I liked more generally how Spider Man describes the relationship between Peter and MJ. It's subtle, relatable and above all credible. It does not look like a convocation of text between two fictional characters; it sounds like an exchange that any of us other than superheroes could have had.
