CONNEAUTVILLE, Pa.– A wave of severe weather hit Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland said a trained spotter reported a tornado 5 miles east of Conneautville in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
The Crawford County Department of Public Safety said the tornado hit Rolling Fields nursing home. A National Weather Service storm survey team confirmed the tornado was an EF-2. The twister had winds up to 115 mph and a path width of 50 yards; the length has yet to be determined.
A Rolling Fields spokeswoman said there were no serious injuries. The spokeswoman told us two people were taken to a hospital for unrelated issues.
Later on Tuesday, the Crawford County EMA updated FOX 8 News and said the injuries were related to the tornado.
Emergency crews used buses to move patients out of the facility to the Conneautville Fire Department. Due to the number of residents, they have been moved to the middle school. Around 160 people live at the nursing home. About 30 people will stay with family or friends; about 130 will be at the middle school.
The NWS also reported a tornado was spotted in Ashtabula County. Kent State Ashtabula issued an alert to students to take shelter.
