The house on Dreamhill Drive was a nightmare waiting.
Outside, a van with steel animal traps blocked the driveway. Near the house, a door was trapped to send a circular hot tub to anyone opening, such as the rock that swept Indiana Jones in "The Lost Ark Adventurers".
According to an affidavit of the arrest warrant, neither one nor the other of the traps has trapped the explosives experts who went to the southwest of the US. Oregon last month in the house. But the team had problems inside, where a person nudged in a wheelchair, causing a loud explosion that blew shots.
"I'm touched!" Shouted one of the experts, a F.B.I. the officer, according to the affidavit, being part of a federal lawsuit against his former owner, Gregory Lee Rodvelt.
The officer, whose name was removed from the document, was shot in the leg. He was treated in a hospital, where an X-ray revealed a small dumpling-shaped object under his left knee, before being released.
In the affidavit, the government indicates that Mr. Rodvelt assaulted a federal agent by installing these traps around the house and his property in Williams, Oregon.
Mr. Rodvelt, 67, had been arrested in Arizona in 2017 and charged with unlawful possession of explosives, but was released in August after a judge ordered him to deliver the house from his home. Oregon, according to the affidavit.
Later this month, a lawyer responsible for cleaning and selling the house arrived to find an outside sign that warned: This property is protected by improvised devices.
At the request of the lawyer, the F.B.I. A bomb expert and three state bomb technicians arrived to inspect the house around 7 am on Sept. 7, when they found the van and spa, as well as a rat trap in the garage, according to the affidavit. The rat trap was not installed, but if it had been, he would have unloaded a shotgun shell when the garage door was open.
After walking around the house and seeing that the windows were blocked, the team gathered in front of the door and opened it with explosives.
Inside, they found the wheelchair and the same type of fishing line as some other lockers, although it was not immediately clear where the wire was placed. Someone accidentally hit the wheelchair, causing the explosion.
Later in the day, a F.B.I. The agent found Mr. Rodvelt in front of an Albertsons grocery store in Surprise, Arizona, and interviewed him about the Oregon home. Mr. Rodvelt spoke to the agent of the hot tub trap, which he compared to the "rolled stone in the Indiana Jones film".
The next day, September 8, the authorities arrested Mr. Rodvelt and executed a search warrant on the property. Mr. Rodvelt, who is still in detention in Arizona, could not be reached on Tuesday and it was not easy to find out if he had a lawyer.
The agent who was touched is back at work, a F.B.I. spokesman said.
