Former Prime Minister Najjib Razak and his wife together left a Malaysian court after pleading not guilty to money laundering related to the corruption scandal of the 1MDB investment fund.
Rosmah Mansor was charged Thursday with 12 counts of receiving proceeds of illegal activities and five other counts of no tax reporting on these sums. She asked to be tried and released on bail.
Najib also appeared Thursday in court for the management of his own trial following the 1MDB scandal. He has pleaded not guilty to several counts and must be tried next year.
The couple smiled and waved to the reporters but did not speak when they left.
His lawyer, Geethan Ram Vincent, told reporters, "This is a good opportunity for (Rosmah) to … erase his name."
