Put this on the list of things do not to impress your sexual partner: end up as a case report in a medical journal.

Publishing your story in a publication may impress your date, but maybe not when the publication is a medical journal Retinal cases and brief reports. But it's the story of a 31-year-old man who made questionable decisions. First of all, he bought the liquid form of Sildenafil citrate, generic name of the drug Viagra, available on the Internet. Then he drank the medicine directly from the bottle without measuring how much he was drinking.

Shortly after ingesting the drug, he began to see multicolored lightning. His eyes became light-sensitive and everything he looked at seemed to have a red hue. He continued to experience symptoms (the hot flashes finally stopped) for two days before going to the Mount Sinai New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Emergency Clinic. In the case report, Fatoumata Yanoga, MD, Ronald C. Gentile, MD, Toco YP Chui, PhD, K. Bailey Freund, MD, Millie Fell, MD, FACS, Rosa Dolz-Marco, MD and Ph. D., and Richard B. Rosen, MD described what happened next.

Tests including Adaptive Optics (AO) and Optimal Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging technology revealed that some photoreceptors in its retina were damaged. Photoreceptors are cells of the retina, located at the back of the eyes. As described in PubMed HealthPhotoreceptors absorb and convert light into electrical signals that then pass through your optic nerve and end up in your brain where they eventually become the images you see.

Doctors at Mount Sinai found that its cone photoreceptors, one of the two types of photoreceptors in your retina, had been damaged. The cones are in the center of your retina and help you see the details and the color. Other types of photoreceptors are the sticks that settle along the outer portion of your retina and help you see in a dark, dark light. Therefore, it is not surprising that damage to the cones results in a red hue. Unfortunately, the red tint has persisted for more than a year, despite steroid treatments, suggesting that this visual disturbance may be permanent.

Even if you are taking Sildenafil Citrate at the recommended doses, you may experience temporary visual symptoms such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, or color changes that look like bluish tints. What does your eye have to do with a drug supposed to act in a place lower than your eye? The drug can cause erections by causing the blood vessels to dilate, so that more blood rushes into your friend there. But as you do not directly pass sildenafil to your friend, other blood vessels and blood flow may be affected, such as blood flow to the retina and the optic nerve. Temporary disruption of blood flow can temporarily disrupt the functioning of your retina cells. Hence the temporary visual disturbances that a number of people have experienced with such drugs.

However, this case report shows that the resulting visual disturbances could be permanent or at least much longer than transient. Add this potential side effect to the list of other possible side effects of erectile dysfunction drugs, such as sildenafil citrate. This list includes headaches, muscle aches, diarrhea, hearing loss, nasal congestion, low blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes and, of course, an erection of more than 4 hours. The last thing is not a good thing and can cause damage to your penis and more.

Certainly, the man in the case report ordered the drug against erectile dysfunction via the internet. So, it's not clear what other ingredients and contaminants may have been included. Melanie Haiken reported five years ago to Forbes up to 77% of the "Viagra" sold online can be fake and even dangerous. Of course, things on the Internet have improved so much since then. Take a look at some of the substances present in such products: blue printer ink, speed or amphetamine, antibiotics, drywall and plaster. If you are going to use drywall and plaster to build Mr Happy, do not put them in your mouth.

The other problem is that he drank more than the recommended dose. The recommended doses exist for a reason. The more you drink or drink, the more you will not stand up. At some point, "dude, I'm already standing" will be the answer. Taking too much medicine can lead to serious risks.

If you think you need medicine for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, talk to your doctor and follow his instructions and package. Hammers and surfboards can be purchased via the internet, but medications require extra caution. Plus, make sure you really need medication before taking it. A healthy 31 year old man should not need drugs for erectile dysfunction. There may be other ways to "make things happen", such as good music or happy thoughts.
