Sears Holdings, in financial difficulty, plans to close another 11 Kmart and Sears stores across the country starting next month.
No New Jersey store is among the last store closures, although the distressed chain announced in August that Sears at Mays Landing's Hamilton Mall would close in November.
Collapse of shops: the 57 largest chains closing stores
The last closures concern six Sears locations and five km, according to the government's dismissal notices. It includes stores from New York to California, which will close in November and December. The nearest New Jersey store that closes is a Kmart located in the Middle Village neighborhood in Queens, New York.
Sears lost $ 508 million in the second quarter of 2018, which ended Aug. 4. That's more than double the $ 250 million net loss recorded for the same period the previous year.
BusinessInsider.com was the first to report on the new closures.
In May, Sears Holding Corp. announced 72 closures nationwide, including a dismal first quarter results report showing a $ 424 million loss. For New Jersey, this list included:
- Sears at the Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrenceville
- Sears on Route 66 at Seaview Square Mall in the Township of Ocean
- Sears at the Burlington Mall in Burlington
- Kmart on Barbour Avenue in Clifton
In January, Sears announced the closure of 103 stores in the first three months of the year, including the Sears store in Ocean County Mall.
The company has closed hundreds of stores in recent years. As of August 13, there remained 506 Sears stores and 360 Kmarts.
A spokesman for Sears Holdings did not immediately return a message from NJ Advance Media.
