An egg-borne salmonella outbreak has left 38 people sick in seven states since mid-June.
Ten people were hospitalized, but no deaths were reported, according to NBC News. No cases have been reported in New York yet.
Tests have linked the disease to eggs sold by Gravel Ridge Farms in Cullman, Alabama.
On September 8, the company recalled the eggs. The large eggs, without cages, were sold in cardboard containers with UPC code 7-06970-38444-6, according to the CDC.
The recalled eggs have the expiry date from July 25 to October 3.
The FDA recommends people avoid all the shell eggs produced by Gravel Ridge, according to the Miami Herald.
The eggs were sold in grocery stores and at restaurants in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. A complete list of egg selling locations is available on the FDA website.
The recalled eggs may be returned to the store for a refund or discarded.
Anyone who remembers eggs should wash and disinfect the drawers and shelves of the refrigerators in which the eggs were stored, according to the CDC.
The CDC said that it was still investigating.
To date, cases have been reported in Montana, Colorado, Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. Tennessee had the most cases with 23, according to the CDC.
The symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Most people recover without treatment, NBC said.
Seniors, young children and those with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable, according to the Herald. Those who are sick in the current epidemic range from 94 to 1 year, said the CDC.
