The husband of a teacher who went missing in Maine over the weekend said that she had been stressed and worried before she disappeared.
Kristin Westra, 47, was last seen at her home in North Yarmouth on Sunday night, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said.
Her husband, Jay Westra, told NBCNews that his wife had gone to a "licensed clinical nurse practitioner" on Sunday. She was reported missing on Monday after having recently had trouble sleeping.
He also testified that his wife was assessed for safety and was deemed not to risk harming or harming anyone.
"She said that she had spent sleepless nights and was worried," Westra told the station.
His family is shocked by his disappearance.
She's the "last person to have done something like this," Eric Rohrbach, Westra's brother, told ABC News. "It's very abnormal."
Jay believes that his wife left their bed before dawn on Monday morning. He said that he would have found their back door slightly open when he woke up around 3:30 in the morning to find Westra away.
He also thinks some of his shoes are gone, he told NBCNews. He thinks, however, that it would be unlikely to run in the cold, rainy morning.
On Monday, he reported his disappearance to the authorities after searching the city alone to find it.
"We are looking wherever we might think that she might be, maybe gone, would have liked maybe," said Captain Scott Stewart of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. "We are still investigating this issue as a missing person, looking for a positive solution."
Westra is 5 feet 10 inches and weighs 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes, according to the sheriff's office.
