Josh Green is engaged in Arizona.
Green, a native of Australia and whose family now lives in Phoenix, preferred the Wildcats to North Carolina.
"It's just what suits me best as a player," Green told ESPN. "I had a relationship with the coach [Sean] Miller for three years, a top priority for three years. I have the opportunity to enter as a freshman and have a significant impact. It means a lot. The location mattered little to me, but it's advantageous to get closer to the family. "
No. 8 in the top 100 ESPN ranking for 2019, Green reduced his list to six in August, but only made an official visit to North Carolina in September. He has to travel to Arizona next weekend, but he does not have to wait to make a decision.
"I went to Arizona three or four times," Green said. "I've seen the campus many times, I've already seen the school, all heard."
Once North Carolina offered a bursary after the concert period in July, many expected the Tar Heels to eventually land the five-star guard. Green grew up in Australia as a fan of North Carolina and the Tar Heels quickly made it a priority.
"By day's end, North Carolina was the school of my dreams when I was a kid, but things are changing," Green said. Green, a 6-foot-5 goalkeeper who attends the IMG Academy (Florida), is one of the elite offensive players of the 2019 class. Playing for West Coast Elite on the circuit of the Under Armor Association, Green averaged 20.3 points while shooting 57.3%. He also contributed nearly five rebounds and better than two assists per game.
Miller now has two five-star guards in his 2019 class, with Green joining recently reclassified senior Nico Mannion (No. 11) and emerging shootout tackle Christian Koloko. Green and Mannion played together in the West Coast Elite program, and Green believes their familiarity will help them immediately in Tucson.
"I wanted what was best for both of us," Green said. "I think now that we're going to the same school, the leader and the shooting guard, we already have chemistry, I think we're going to have a big impact, we'll have to move up a gear."
