A well-known gangster – whose son was injured during an assassination attempt three months ago – was beaten to death during a McDonald's drive in the Bronx on Thursday, sources said.

Sylvester Zottola, 71, a member of Bonanno's criminal family, was shot in the head, chest and shoulder while he was sitting in his car in front of the Webster Avenue fast food restaurant and Belmont Street at around 4:45 pm, according to repressive sources.

Sylvester had been manhandled three times in the last year. His 41-year-old son, Salvatore Zottola, was wounded when an armed gunman opened fire on him in front of his Bronx home on July 11.

The July shootout was filmed by a surveillance video, but the young Zottola did not cooperate with the authorities and no arrests were made, sources said.

Investigators believe that the attack on Salvatore was supposed to be a message for his father, who had his share of aggression attempts.

In September 2017, Elder Zottola was walking near his home in the Bronx when an assailant knocked him out, sources said.

Two months later, a thug armed with guns tried unsuccessfully to force Sylvestre Zottola into a car on Meagher Avenue and the Throgs Neck, according to the same source.

The most vicious clashes took place late in the night of December when Sylvester Zottola collided with three burglars who ransacked his home.

A burglar pulled a knife and stabbed Zottola around his neck, putting him in critical condition at the Jacobi Medical Center.

No arrests were made Thursday night in the assassination of Zottola.
