A low pressure zone near the eastern border of Honduras and Nicaragua has a 50 percent chance of moving to a tropical depression over the next five days, the National Hurricane Center reported on Thursday.
This system was accompanied by a vast area of disturbed weather extending from Central America to Hispaniola eastbound.
The Hurricane Center said Thursday night (Oct. 4) that high winds were not conducive to tropical cyclone formation, but that conditions should improve for development later this weekend. or at the beginning of next week.
A tropical depression could form in the northwestern Caribbean or the southern Gulf of Mexico as the system moves slowly northwest, the Hurricane Center said.
"Regardless of the formation of tropical cyclones, these disturbances will continue to cause torrential rains mainly in parts of Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula over the next few days," the Hurricane Center said.
In the central Atlantic, tropical storm Leslie moved north at 12 mph.
"A reduction in the speed of advancement is expected Friday and Friday night, and Leslie will turn east or east-southeast during the weekend," the Hurricane announced. Center.
Leslie, who posed no threat to the earth, is expected to weaken over the next few days.
