The Dodgers made a surprising and controversial decision to launch Hyun-Jin Ryu against Clayton Kershaw in the first game of the NL Division Series.

The South Korean left-handed sent seven dominant innings and Los Angeles launched three home runs to beat the Atlanta Braves 6-0 on Thursday night.
Ryu delivered his first start in the playoffs since 2014. He conceded four singles – both with two outs – took out eight and made no goals.
"I think we're feeling pretty good, he has started well, he has started well," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Ryu was only wrong when he mistook the second outing of the fourth inning for the last run and started walking towards the canoe. He laughed as he realized the blunder.
Ryu, 31, missed three and a half months of the season due to a groin injury and returned on Aug. 15 to release a 1.88 ERA in 52 2/3. Sandy Koufax, a great Dodger player, was among the people who cheered Ryu as he headed for the dugout after his last throw.
The Dodgers set franchise and national league records totaling 235 homeruns in the regular season. Three others were selected to start their series. The defending NHL champions were beaten 6-5 by Atlanta, but the Braves only got singles.
The second match of the best of five games will take place Friday at Dodger Stadium. Kershaw will be in Los Angeles against Anibal Sanchez.
The Braves lost eight consecutive playoff series players. They did not win the first game since 2001, when they swept Houston into the LNDS.
Rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. retired twice and went 0 for 4 while Baby Braves was whitened. It was the first appearance of the Atlanta playoffs since 2013, when they lost to the Dodgers in four games.
The kickoff of Joc Pederson in the bottom of the first rocked Mike Foltynewicz in his playoff debut.
Foltynewicz allowed four runs and three hits in two sets. The right-hander hit five and walked two. He managed to get out of the trap loaded with two bases in the first by eliminating Yasiel Puig.
Foltynewicz still encountered problems in the second.
With two outs, he hit Pederson and walked Justin Turner before Muncy sent a 1-0 field over the center wall, bringing the score to 4-0.
Enrique Hernandez shot a solo shot with two outs in the sixth quarter against Brad Brach. Coach David Freese added a sacrificial volley in the eighth.
Ryu gave one of every two singles to Freddie Freeman in the first.
After that, he pulled out 12 consecutive hitterers before a pair of singles in two among Ender Inciarte and former Dodger Charlie Culberson in fifth. Puig scored Kurt Suzuki's strike on the right field to end the run. The Braves did not advance a runner after the second goal in the match.
Ryu gave Ozzie Albies another single in seventh place. With his supporters waving blue towels and a crowd of 50,947 people chanting his name, Ryu prompted Inciarte to unleash a decisive attack to end the inning.
Defensemen Caleb Ferguson, Alex Wood and Dylan Floro completed the combined six batters.
