Toddler dies after strong wind sends bounce pumpkin pad

LINCOLN, Neb. (WLS) –

A 2-year-old boy died after being injured Wednesday night with his 5-year-old sister in an accident on a pumpkin garden in Nebraska.

Caleb Acuna and her older sister were playing on the bounce mat at JK's Pumpkin Patch, located just north of Lincoln, during a private event Wednesday night, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

Although the sheet was embedded, a strong gust of wind – about 60 mph – lifted it up into the air and tipped it around 6 pm. Caleb's sister was ejected from the carpet, but Caleb was trapped in the carpet, which landed about 40 meters away in a soybean field, reports KLKN.

After Wednesday's accident, owner Josh Kadavy issued a statement in which he expressed his great distress at the incident. KLKN said that he did not want to talk to the media.

The state of Nebraska has no regulations on bounce houses or protective mats.

The Lancaster County Attorney ordered an autopsy. The incident remains under investigation.
