Fans of The boys had their wish Friday at the New York Comic Con. Simon Pegg, who served as a physical model to a main character in the comics, surprised those gathered at the Manhattan Hammerstein Ballroom to confirm that he actually had a role to play in adapting the R series -rated Amazon.
When Pegg stormed the scene, the actor – who now joins a cast that understands his Star Trek costar Karl Urban – revealed that he would play Hughie's father (played by Jack Quaid), a member of the incumbent boys.
"I'm here for two reasons," Pegg told the crowd. "First of all, approve this handsome young boy, Jack Quaid, as a true Hughie, and let you know that I will also play in The Boys in the only role I could play: Hughie's father. And I am damned please!

Hughie Sr. is named after Dougie, a Scottish name paying homage to Hughie's Scottish story in comics. Darick Robertson, who drew the original comics with writer Garth Ennis, modeled the character of "Wee" Hughie from Pegg. "I heard about Darick and I found out that my face was used in this comic book," said the president.
