3 dead and 2 seriously injured in South Jersey crash

Three people died and two others were seriously injured in a head-on collision Friday night in Pennsville, police said.

The accident occurred around 9 pm and involved two cars on South Hook Road, the Pennsville police chief, Allen Cummings.

The three dead were all in the same car, a sedan with New Jersey plates, said Cummings.

The driver, a woman in her sixties, the passenger, a woman in her thirties or forties and a man in the back seat are dead, he said.

The police did not reveal his names Friday night.

Two adults in the front seat of the other car, carrying Delaware plates, were taken to the hospital by helicopter with "serious but not life-threatening injuries," said the chief. .

Two children, a one year old and a baby in car seats, were also in the car with Delaware plates, but were not injured.

Cummings said that he did not know how the accident had occurred

The New Jersey State Police participated in the investigation, he added.

South Hook Road was closed from Route 49 at Mahoney Road beginning at 10:00 pm.
