LAHORE, Pakistan (Pakistan) – Pakistan's anti-corruption body has brought opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif before a judge after arresting him for links to a multi-million dollar housing scam.

The National Accountability Office will ask the judge for permission to call Sharif for two weeks for questioning.

Saturday's development took place a day after Sharif's arrest by the authorities in the city of Lahore.

Sharif is the leader of the opposition in the lower house of parliament.

He is accused of abuse of power during his tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab from 2013 to 2018 by urging the authorities to award contracts for a housing program to a company with which he had political connections.

Sharif is the younger brother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified from office in 2017 for corruption charges.
