Winn-Dixie stores in Florida and Save Mart and Food Maxx in California were included in the list of retail stores that could have received for the 6.9 million pounds of beef recalled Wednesday due to concerns about salmonella.
As with the retail list of the Cargill E. coli beef recall, expect adjustments and additions over the next few days.
The beef, recalled by JBS Tolleson after 57 salmonella cases were traced to beef manufactured by JBS Tolleson, should no longer be used, expired or in consumers' freezers. All dates of consumption and sales are in August and September for beef products manufactured from July 26 to September 7.
(Thursday and Friday, the USDA increased volumes of recalled products and, as a result, the total tonnage of 6.5 million pounds to 6,937,195 pounds).
The publication of Saturday's list was made with the usual warnings from the USDA's Food Safety Inspection Service: the FSIS has just "a reason to believe" that these stores have purchased the product, but "this list may not include all outlets that have received the product recalled include outlets that have not actually received the recalled product."
That's what happened with Cargill's aforementioned list last week. And this recall is 52 times larger than the Cargill recall.
The stores on the list:
