Our Lady is eligible for the bowl after only six weeks. The Irish in bout # 6 earned their sixth win of the season on Saturday night, beating No. 24 Virginia Tech 45-23 in Blacksburg, Va. This is the third week in a row that the Irish offensive has managed to score at least 38 points after a slow start to the season. It's no coincidence that this is also the third consecutive game of Notre Dame to the opposite quarter of Ian Book.
Book finished the game by completing 25 of 35 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns. As usual, his favorite goal was Miles Boykin, who caught eight passes for 117 yards and two goals. Still, they both played, but Dexter Williams was the real star of Notre Dame's offensive. He had 182 yards and three touchdowns in 17 carries, or 10.5 yards per race.
Virginia Tech led Ryan Willis, who collected 309 yards and two touchdowns, but also scooped up and intercepted. The defeat brings the Hokies to 3-2 this season, while the Irish may have faced the last ranked opponent of the 2018 campaign with a half-season left.
Here are four points to remember from the victory of Notre Dame.
1. Our Lady could be favored in all games from now on: Assuming that any team will win every game – even Alabama – is a stupid practice, but if you look at what's left on the Notre Dame calendar, it's not easy to find the loss. Notre Dame is already 6-0 and has remaining matches against Pitt, the Navy, the Northwest, the State of Florida, Syracuse and the USC. There are certainly games that the Irish could lose – Northwestern and Florida State can be tough – but it is unlikely that they are the underdogs of any game before the season finale against USC, and they could also be favored there. If it were played at South Bend, in Indiana, they would almost certainly be favored.
When you look at what Notre Dame has accomplished so far, beating three ranked teams (well, Virginia Tech will be ranked a few more hours), you can say that he already has an impressive resume in the country. It will be difficult to improve the situation from now on, unless some teams change the trajectory of their seasons, but the Irish look like a team that could flirt with an undefeated regular season.

He made his first interception of the season on Saturday night and, even though he did not have the most powerful arm (his accuracy in the field is questionable at best), the effectiveness of his use by the Irish is effective.
You see Book throwing a lot of short passes and screens, which brings the defense to the line of scrimmage, resulting in covering busts and giant targets such as Miles Boykin open deep. When your target is wide open, you do not need to be as accurate. Until now, it works pretty well for Book and the Irish. And although he does not have the same mobility as Wimbush, Book is able to move in the pocket and extend the games, giving his recipients time to open. In combination with Dexter Williams as the half-offensive, Book gives Notre Dame a well-balanced attack she does not have with Wimbush, making defense more difficult.
3. Speaking of Dexter Williams, he was also a spark: Book gets the most attention because it is what happens with QB, but do not neglect the impact that has been the Irish rush since his return. His first game of the season was against Stanford last week and he had 161 rushing yards, including a 45-yard touchdown on his first touchdown. Tonight, Williams 'big game was a 97 yard rush in the third quarter that seemed to shatter Virginia Tech' s spirit. Its explosive ability makes this offense very dangerous.
4. Ryan Willis is perhaps the best Tech QB, but he is far from polite. When you watch Willis play, you can see a lot. He has a big arm and he is not afraid to stand in his pocket to take a shot. Of course, these positive aspects can also be negative. This arm may be strong, but it is not always precise and sometimes Willis clings too long to the ball.
The perfect sequence of Willis took place late in the second quarter. With Tech trailing 10-9, Willis did not get rid of the ball when no one was open and took a bag. As he was touched from behind, he escaped the ball and Julian Love of Notre Dame captured him and carried him 42 yards out of the house to give Notre Dame a 17-0 lead. Willis responded by leading the Hokies on a beautiful 75-yard touchdown in 56 seconds with 56 games. He was damn close to perfection on the way.
It has a pretty attractive cap to make you wonder if it will not keep the post when Josh Jackson will come back from a broken leg, but it also seems to occasionally support and makes the kind of throws that can make a crazy coach. It will be interesting to see how it evolves over the next few weeks.
