Marcus Smart ejected after a fight with J.R. Smith

Marcus Smart was engaged in the first quarter with the Cleveland Cavaliers and J.R. Smith, which led to Smart's ejection.

That would be about as much of a fight as you would see Celtics as they close their list of pre-season games with a 113-102 loss against the Cavs.

Boston (1-3) has more than a week between now and his opening match against Philadelphia.

And they will need this time to work on a number of things that have greatly contributed to their loss of three of their four pre-season games.

Here are the Stars, Studs and Duds that will follow Saturday's match.

STARS

Ante Zizic: Sent by the Celtics by traded to Cleveland as part of the contract with Kyrie Irving last year, Zizic showed promise that Boston had seen him earlier. The 7-foot tall man led all scorers with 20 points on 7 shots out of 8 to go with five rebounds.

J.R. Smith: The 7 points on the 3-on-6 shots did not have much impact on the result of the match. But the bruhaha he helped climb by tangling his arm with Aron Baynes in the first quarter changed the game. This triggered a reaction from Marcus Smart, who was expelled for his role in the incident. And the Celtics have never gained traction or momentum.

Marcus Morris: It was another good night to score for Morris, who was one of Boston's top scorers in the pre-season. He led the Celtics with 17 bench points.

STUDS

Jordan Clarkson: He has been among the top scorers on the bench in recent years, a trend that he seems poised to continue this season. He has 12 points on 4 shots out of 8 for the Cavs with six rebounds.

Collin Sexton: The eighth overall pick in the NBA project last June seems to be able to contribute significantly to the Cavs as soon as possible. He had yet another pre-season game against Boston, scoring 13 points in just 4 out of 6 shots in just 19 minutes.

Terry Rozier: Without Kyrie Irving (ribs) around, Rozier had some more shots attempts and to his credit, he made the most of his increased role. The athlete from Youngstown, Ohio, scored 17 points, which allowed his teammate to be tied for the honors.

NIPPES

Three-point shooting: You know that the Celtics will take a lot of three points. It's just who they are as a team. But to manufacture them, at least in the pre-season, is another matter. Boston closed its pre-season program with another mediocre 3-point shooter. Against the Cavs, Boston made only 24.1% (7 of 29)

Marcus Smart: You like the fact that Marcus Smart plays with a level of elitist passion, but he was totally on top tonight. Smart was expelled in the first quarter for taking over Aron Baynes after J.R. Smith handed a two-handed pass to Baynes. Fortunately for the Celtics, this has occurred during the preseason rather than during a regular season game when games count.

Tandem Brown / Tatum: Neither one nor the other player had the offensive because they each scored eight points. Brown shot 4-for-13, while Tatum was no better at connecting three of his nine field shots.
