Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano was detained by police in the Dominican Republic.
Sano struck officer Argenis Emilio Gillandeux with his vehicle, leaving him with a broken leg. The officer was on duty outside the nightclub Riversay in San Pedro de Macoris, according to the police report.
Sano was driving a vehicle without license plates and did not have his ID.
"We have been made aware of the situation involving Miguel Sano in the Dominican Republic." Twins spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports.
Tea Listin Diario Reported that Sano was released shortly after being detained, with the promise of showing up at the police station. Monday at 9 a.m.
Also, Sano has offered to pay for the police officer's medical bills.
Sano, 25, returned to his native country last week after the Twins season ended.
